It’s that time of year again when everyone is getting their costumes in check for the parades on Sunday afternoon. Normally, we are not that into the Carnival spirit, but the rest of our family is… so you could say that we are the outsiders… Although this year is slightly different, because of Beau and his beautiful ladybug costume that we bought 🙂 Isn’t he the cutest you’ve ever seen?! 🙂
Since the parade in Eisden (part of Maasmechelen) was passing by my brother in law’s house, we turned it into a family outing with my entire family in law and my parents. The parade was set to start at 2.30 PM, but for some reason got delayed a bit so by the time it passed the house it was already 4.30 PM. This meant that the small children were either very tired or were feeling bored from all the waiting.. You can see below from the pictures that Beau was definitely in favor of being carried by the women in the family (grandmothers, aunt/godmother and me) because he was quite tired from waiting and from skipping his afternoon nap!
Don’t know if it was a good sign or not, but the parade wasn’t that long (about 40 floats) compared to other parades such as the one in Rekem (part of Lanaken) which has about 100 floats! Still, the floats itself were very nicely decorated and the themes were quite divers as well, from mermaids to jungle fever to vampires… One of the last floats was the most beautiful one and at the same time the highest one…
In the end, everyone had a lot of fun but was glad to see it finish so that we could all go inside to warm up and enjoy some homemade dinner with the family 🙂
Have you ever been to a Carnival Parade? If so, which one and what did you think about it?
